Hello!
How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My magazine product is a basic magazine that covers all the basic ideals that a magazine requires. My magazine is involved with a masthead and all the other basic requirements a cover page should require. PC Gamer was the magazine that I gained much inspiration from and I also used personal knowledge on my experience with video games that helped me create the image for my cover magazine.
Starting off with my cover page, the conventions are all followed. You can see the masthead as the biggest text in the cover having the title of GameVerse which has a font inspired off the game “Mortal Kombat”, which is a combat game between 2 characters whose mobility is side to side or up and down with various combos and moves. The image is my brother, whose name is Kevin and is studying computer science in his University, using his VR console as it covers the main feature article which is labeled “Is Virtual Reality the future? I wanted to make the image purple as it was part of the color schemes that people recommended in the survey to gather information and I wanted the title to match with the other texts and images as it is the same color. The barcode is visible and the other texts are visible as well. The main idea of this issue is Virtual Reality and that is what my image portrays.
Next is my Table of contents which contains a few page numbers alongside the the titles of what those pages would be and even titling the name of the feature story that is included in the next double page spread. As my main cover page is usually in purple, I wanted to follow up with the same thing, I wanted to align the images and the drawings and the content to be all the same aesthetically pleasing even my image being cool as it is a friend of mines who is playing one of his favorite mobile games and is put in the frame of a phone and it felt as if it was too empty so I put some lines at the top and at the side to be able to make it feel complete.
The double page spread was my second favorite piece to work on and it was the work I got the most advice on. Looking at the conventions of a double page spread, there are the 2 images finishing up the minimum images required for the whole magazine print and the 2 images are facing the text and are of Kevin with his VR set up-close showcasing it for us. The colors of the double page spread are important to the futuristic look and even the fonts as well, containing the important feature story “Is Virtual Reality the Future?” and how Kevin feels about Virtual Reality.
Facing social groups and issues. This Magazine was meant for a broad audience, so all different groups could be able to read this. GameVerse Magazine is for the typical average gamer, you don't have to be a nerd or a genius, but if you play any game, whichever type, no matter what console, this magazine is for you. From console to virtual reality, I want gamers to see all sides of gaming. I've put a bunch of games on my survey that anybody can play, whether or not you have to play them. If you enjoy any games, this GameVerse magazine will be for you.
